Devotions: Since You Love Me

Devotions for May 11-16, 2026

Read Sermon   Watch Semon

MONDAY, MAY 11, 2026

Scripture:
“Since you love me, you will keep my commandments.” — John 14:15

Reflection:
Jesus’ words are not meant to threaten or manipulate us. Jesus already knows the disciples love him. When we love someone, we seek their well-being. Jesus calls us into that same kind of love for one another. Not sentimental love or warm feelings, but agape love—love rooted in compassion, and grace. Every small act of kindness becomes a witness to Christ’s presence in the world. Today, look for one opportunity to practice that kind of love toward someone around you.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, teach me to love others with patience, mercy, and compassion. Help me reflect your love in my words and actions today. Amen.

TUESDAY, MAY 12, 2026

Scripture:
Love is patient; love is kind.” — 1 Corinthians 13:4

Reflection:
Most of us would like to think we are loving people. Yet if we are honest, patience and kindness do not always come naturally. Fear, anger, and exhaustion often shape our reactions more than love does. That is why we need Jesus’ commandment again and again. Agape love is a daily practice. Sometimes love means listening when we would rather argue. Sometimes it means forgiving when resentment feels easier. God’s Spirit continues to work within us, slowly shaping us to become more like Christ.

Prayer:
Holy Spirit, soften my heart when I become impatient or angry. Teach me to love others with the same grace you show me each day. Amen.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 13, 2026

Scripture:
“I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever.” — John 14:16

Reflection:
There are moments when God feels distant. We pray, but answers do not come quickly. We carry grief, loneliness, and wonder where God is. Jesus understood that his disciples would feel afraid after he was gone. That is why he promised the Advocate—the Holy Spirit—to remain with them. We may not always understand how the Spirit works, but many of us have experienced that quiet peace, unexpected strength, or gentle nudge toward compassion. God has not abandoned us. Christ continues to walk beside us through the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer:
Gracious God, remind me today that I am never alone. Help me trust your presence even when I cannot fully see or understand it. Amen.

THURSDAY – ASCENSION DAY

MAY 14, 2026

Scripture:
“And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” — Matthew 28:20

Reflection:
Today the Church celebrates the Ascension of Jesus. Jesus ascends into heaven and disappears from the disciples’ sight. Yet Ascension is not about Christ abandoning the world. It is about Christ remaining present with us in a new way through the Holy Spirit. Even after nearly 2,000 years, Jesus continues to guide, comfort, and strengthen his people. The risen Christ is still active wherever love, mercy, forgiveness, and compassion are found. Ascension reminds us that Christ’s presence is bigger than one place or one moment in history.

Prayer:
Ascended Lord, remind me that your love still surrounds this world. Help me trust your presence and share your compassion with others today. Amen.

FRIDAY, MAY 15, 2026

Scripture:
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” — John 15:12

Reflection:
Jesus does not say, “Love only the people who agree with you.” He calls us to love all people, even when it is difficult. In a divided world, this commandment can feel almost impossible. Yet Christian love, agape love recognizes the dignity and humanity of every person because each person is created in the image of God. Loving our neighbor may begin with something simple: listening without judgment, showing kindness, or refusing to speak with hatred. Small acts of mercy can reveal God’s presence more powerfully than we often realize.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, help me to see others through your eyes. Teach me to respond with compassion instead of anger or fear. Amen.

SATURDAY, MAY 16, 2026

Scripture:
“God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God.” — 1 John 4:16

Reflection:
God’s love is always present, even when we do not always recognize it. Sometimes we encounter that love through the care and compassion of others. A kind word, a helping hand, a moment of forgiveness—these ordinary acts can become holy moments, God’s love becomes visible among us. Every act of compassion becomes a witness that Christ is still alive and active in the world. Today, ask yourself: how might God reveal love through me today?

Prayer:
Loving God, let my life become a reflection of your mercy and grace. Help me share your love in ordinary and meaningful ways today. Amen.
