Announcements for September 8

Altar Flowers
Today the altar flowers are given to the glory of God, in honor of those who founded and nurtured St. John’s for 110 years, and in honor of all our current members who are committed to continuing God’s work here by Jim and Bonnie Stevens.

Break Fast
Today we will tie six blankets for the Linus Project. Thanks to Pastor Michele and Nancy Bradshaw for cutting them. Also, Dr. Russell Kleckley will continue leading us in an introduction to the Gospel of John.

Youth Group
The St. John’s Youth Group will have its first meeting this afternoon at 4 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Those in grades 6-12 are invited to come. Youth Group will meet once a month on the 2nd Sunday of the month.

Confirmation
The first confirmation class for the fall will be next Sunday, Sept. 15th at 4 pm. Those returning for their second year should bring their Bibles to class. We will meet in the Fellowship Hall. Fall classes will be held on the 1st and 3rd Sundays at 4 pm through December.

Children’s Sunday School
Jan Samson will teach a children’s Sunday school class with a Lego curriculum for grades K-5 on the same afternoons Pastor Michele is teaching confirmation class: on the 1st and 3rd Sundays, beginning on September 15 at 4 pm.

“God’s work. Our Hands” Day of Service
St. John’s and Pomaria Lutheran Churches are assembling blankets for the Linus Project and “Cleaning Buckets” for Lutheran Disaster Response. Completed items will be blessed at our joint worship service, which begins at 10:00 am, on September 29 at Pomaria.

Mini-VBS
On Sept. 19 and Oct. 31, when Lexington-Richland 5 has early release for elementary and intermediate schools, St. John’s will offer a “Mini-VBS” from noon until 4 pm. The children will be given lunch, and we will offer activities planned around a central theme for the day. We will need a few volunteers to help on these days from 11:30 am until 4 pm.

Lutheran Men in Mission
The meeting scheduled for Monday, September 9 has been cancelled.

Property Facilitators
St. John’s is blessed to have beautiful facilities, and we need one or two facilitators to help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all. This ministry will focus on recruiting to get small tasks done and reaching out to vendors for quotes for more complex tasks. Please let Pastor Michele or a council member know if you feel called to serve.
