Announcements for September 15

Altar Flowers
Today the altar flowers are given to the glory of God and in thanks to all volunteers, especially the new altar guild members (Lynn Martin, Bonnie Stevens and Judy Truax), by Tim and Nancy Bradshaw.

Noisy Offering
The noisy offering collected today will benefit Lutheran Disaster Response during the beginning of this hurricane season.

Confirmation and Sunday School
Our confirmation and Sunday School classes will meet today from 4 pm to 5 pm. The classes will meet on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month this fall and 1st and 4th Sundays in the spring.
The confirmation class is open to children in grades 6-8. This year we are going to do an overview of the Bible, with each student being gifted a Bible Tool Kit. Those returning for their second year of confirmation classes should bring their Bibles to class. If you know of children in grades 6-8 that might enjoy learning the basics of the Bible, please invite them to join us.
The children’s Sunday School class will use Building Faith Brick by Brick and is for children in elementary school. The class uses LEGO® bricks to help teach the children the basic Bible stories. This, of course, means we need LEGO bricks. If you have any LEGO bricks gathering dust in the attic or taking up space in a closet, we would love to make use of them. Jan Samson is teaching this class with Steve Kesler assisting.

“God’s Work. Our Hands” Day of Service
St. John’s and Pomaria Lutheran Churches are assembling blankets for the Linus Project and “Cleaning Buckets” for Lutheran Disaster Response. St. John’s has completed six blankets. Completed items will be blessed at our joint worship service, which begins at 10:00 am, on September 29 at Pomaria.

Lutheran Men in Mission
Mark your calendars now for a fish fry on Thursday, October 17, 2024.

Mini-VBS On Sept. 19 and Oct. 31, when Lex-Rich 5 has early release for elementary and intermediate schools, St. John’s will offer a “Mini-VBS” from noon until 4 pm. The children will be given lunch, and we will offer activities planned around a central theme for the day. We will need a few volunteers to help on these days from 11:30 am until 4 pm.

Property Facilitator(s)
St. John’s is blessed to have beautiful facilities, and we need one or two facilitator(s) to help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all. This ministry will focus on recruiting to get small tasks done and reaching out to vendors for quotes for more complex tasks. Please let Pastor Michele or a council member know if you feel called to serve.
