Announcements for May 25 2025

Roofing Project
Mays Contracting recommended adding sheathing to the roofs of the Sunday School building and the church. The additional cost is $11,245, which brings the total cost for the roofing project to $56,519. This is $6,519 more than the amount approved by the congregation with the understanding that unknown costs might be incurred once the work was begun.
Donations toward this project are welcomed to reduce the amount that must be funded from savings. Please note “Roofing Project” in the memo section of your check or through online giving.

Vacation Bible School (VBS)
VBS begins June 2nd. All children are invited to participate. Our middle school and high school youth will be assisting with activities during the week. Please let Jan Samson or the office know if you have children planning to attend so that we will have enough snacks.
The program ends on Thursday, June 5th with a hotdog dinner and a VBS celebration. All are welcome to join us. Please RSVP by June 2nd if you will be attending the VBS celebration on June 5th.
A sign-up sheet for snacks and the hotdog supper is posted in the narthex.

Ravi Ortiz’s First Birthday Party
The congregation is invited to attend Ravi Ortiz’s first birthday party on Saturday, June 14 at 3:00 P.M. in the Fellowship Hall. Ravi is the son of Romita Rajasekaran and Victor Ortiz. If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Romita by text or phone call at (803) 727-6474 by June 1, so that an approximate count can be provided to the caterer.

Confirmation
Pentecost is June 8th and we will confirm Gabe Kesler, Elizabeth Koen, Haley Koen, Isabelle Koen and Kaylie Moore as voting members of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Following the service there will be a catered celebration. The color of the day is RED, unless you are one of our young people being confirmed! Please join us as we celebrate these five wonderful young people.

Insurance Update
Our multi-peril policy with Brotherhood Mutual will renew on May 31, 2025. The premium will be $11,633, an increase of $2,346 or 25%. We will pay one-half of the premium on May 31 and the other half on November 30. Brotherhood Mutual also informed us that our deductible for hail and wind will change from $2,500 to $25,000.
We will send them pictures and other information on the new roofs and request reductions in our premium and our deductible for hail and wind. If we are unsuccessful, we will seek quotes from other companies.
With such a high deductible for hail and wind, we must replace some of our cash reserves used for the roofing project.
