Announcements for October 5 2025

DONATION IN LIEU OF ALTAR FLOWERS
In lieu of altar flowers today, a donation was given to World Central Kitchen to the glory of God and in honor of River Konarski’s first birthday on October first, by Sam and Jan Samson.

YOUTH GROUP
The youth group will meet today beginning at 12:30 P.M. with lunch at church (Build Your own Sandwich). Then from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M., they will enjoy fishing at Nell and Jamie Dailey’s pond at 1220 Hopewell Church Road, Irmo, SC 29063.
Each youth should bring their own fishing pole and water bottle. Parents can pick up their youth at 2:00 P.M. at the Dailey property.

PICNIC SHELTER
Dupre Percival and the LMM are working on the redesign of the tables and seating as part of the picnic shelter repair, and they welcome your thoughts and input in the process. They will meet today at 8:45 A.M. as part of BreakFast to brainstorm ideas and options to consider for restoring/enhancing the functionality of the picnic shelter, which was damaged last fall by Hurricane Helene.

Please plan to attend the meeting or contact any member of the LMM with your questions, thoughts, and input prior to the meeting.

Insurance proceeds will be used for the repairs.

CONFIRMATION CLASSES
Confirmation classes, which are open to anyone in grades 6 and up, will continue on October 19. The theme this year is the Small Catechism, and Baptism is the topic for this class.
On the Sundays when classes are held, students are strongly encouraged to attend worship service at 11:00 A.M., bring a bag lunch and water bottle, and come prepared to learn from 12:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M.

FISH FRY
LMM’s Fall Fish Fry will be held on Thursday, October 30 beginning at 6:00 P.M.
Please invite your neighbors and friends. Donations of desserts are requested.
Note: Carry out plates may be picked up beginning at 5:30 P.M.

BUDGET MEETING
On Sunday, October 26, there will be a meeting following worship, to provide comments and suggestions for the 2026 budget. Please plan to attend and provide your valuable input.

STOCK DONATIONS
Donating stock directly to charity is a tax-smart way to give, but it is not well understood or widely used. By avoiding capital gains taxes, you can give 15 or 20 percent more than if you sold the stock and then made a cash donation. The amount that would have gone to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as taxes stays with the charity. If you itemize deductions instead of taking the standard deduction, you are eligible to deduct the full fair-market value of the asset you donated from your taxable income.
The process of transferring stock from a donor’s brokerage account to the charity’s brokerage account is fairly simple.

JOINT WORSHIP SERVICE
Last Sunday 13 folks from St. John’s attended the joint worship service at Pomaria Lutheran Church.
